Face to face with this morbid truth
Unbroken seal on old figurines

Diagnosis slaps a "sell by" date on my right arm
Looking back to see the path and no trail of bread crumbs
Draft a list of things I missed,

Everyone's soles are burning
Screen the sun as we start to run
Fin below me
Wax holds on to me tightly
Pray shark teeth are at bay today

Those swells of bright blue glass
They curl like prom night hair
Foaming at the mouth, don't be scared
Turn one eighty degrees
Paddle as if you need
to flee and gain speed

Death is ever lurking

Drop in, time slows down, drown out the sound
Carve left, right, up, and down
Poured over shoulders, looped in it's enclosure
Giving me closure, sea surface splinters
Mounds where the wake was

I see my breathe in the undertow
The snow mass pops and I've nowhere to go

There in the blackness I had lost what
Senses make my surroundings clear-cut
Spinning out aimless when I felt the cord
When pulled in gently to the air-lock
My voice was drowned out by the rushed talk

Weightless, no less can I lift up from the stiff bed
With darkening stars dissipating out of our vision
I call on God, but the voicemail box was bulging
With every unanswered wish for health, resolve,
Crush's attention, Christmas lists of puppies; all ignored

Beeping increases, so loud
My peaceful stasis gives out
And I'm crying, bearing witness to a white light
That's insisting that it's better on this side
No disappointment, no embarrassment
Nobody to let down
Not even you
